Matthew 6:25-34

[25]"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [26]Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? [27]And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? [28]And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, [29]yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. [30]But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you -- you of little faith? [31]Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' [32]For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. [33]But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

[34]"So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today."

Matthew 6:7-15

[7]"When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. [8]Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

[9]"Pray then in this way:
    Our Father in heaven,
         hallowed be your name.
[10]       Your kingdom come.
         Your will be done,
              on earth as it is in heaven.
[11]       Give us this day our daily bread.
[12]       And forgive us our debts,
              as we also have forgiven our debtors.
[13]       And do not bring us to the time of trial,
              but rescue us from the evil one.
[14]For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; [15]but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:1-6; 16-18

[1]"Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

[2]"So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. [3]But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, [4]so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

[5]"And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. [6]But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

[16]"And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. [17]But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, [18]so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

2 Kings 6:1-23

[1]Now the company of prophets said to Elisha, "As you see, the place where we live under your charge is too small for us. [2]Let us go to the Jordan, and let us collect logs there, one for each of us, and build a place there for us to live." He answered, "Do so." [3]Then one of them said, "Please come with your servants." And he answered, "I will." [4]So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. [5]But as one was felling a log, his ax head fell into the water; he cried out, "Alas, master! It was borrowed."
[6]Then the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there, and made the iron float.
[7]He said, "Pick it up." So he reached out his hand and took it.

[8]Once when the king of Aram was at war with Israel, he took counsel with his officers. He said, "At such and such a place shall be my camp." [9]But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, "Take care not to pass this place, because the Arameans are going down there." [10]The king of Israel sent word to the place of which the man of God spoke. More than once or twice he warned such a place so that it was on the alert.

[11]The mind of the king of Aram was greatly perturbed because of this; he called his officers and said to them, "Now tell me who among us sides with the king of Israel?" [12]Then one of his officers said, "No one, my lord king. It is Elisha, the prophet in Israel, who tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber." [13]He said, "Go and find where he is; I will send and seize him." He was told, "He is in Dothan." [14]So he sent horses and chariots there and a great army; they came by night, and surrounded the city.

[15]When an attendant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. His servant said, "Alas, master! What shall we do?" [16]He replied, "Do not be afraid, for there are more with us than there are with them." [17]Then Elisha prayed: "O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see." So the LORD opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. [18]When the Arameans came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, "Strike this people, please, with blindness." So he struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked. [19]Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city; follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." And he led them to Samaria.

[20]As soon as they entered Samaria, Elisha said, "O LORD, open the eyes of these men so that they may see." The LORD opened their eyes, and they saw that they were inside Samaria. [21]When the king of Israel saw them he said to Elisha, "Father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?" [22]He answered, "No!
Did you capture with your sword and your bow those whom you want to kill? Set food and water before them so that they may eat and drink; and let them go to their master." [23]So he prepared for them a great feast; after they ate and drank, he sent them on their way, and they went to their master. And the Arameans no longer came raiding into the land of Israel.

Psalm 146

[1]   Praise the LORD!
     Praise the LORD, O my soul!
[2]   I will praise the LORD as long as I live;
          I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

[3]   Do not put your trust in princes,
          in mortals, in whom there is no help.
[4]   When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
          on that very day their plans perish.

[5]   Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
          whose hope is in the LORD their God,
[6]   who made heaven and earth,
          the sea, and all that is in them;
     who keeps faith forever;
[7]        who executes justice for the oppressed;
          who gives food to the hungry.

     The LORD sets the prisoners free;
[8]        the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
     The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down;
          the LORD loves the righteous.
[9]   The LORD watches over the strangers;
          he upholds the orphan and the widow,
          but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

[10]  The LORD will reign forever,
          your God, O Zion, for all generations.
     Praise the LORD!

Psalm 85

[1]   LORD, you were favorable to your land;
          you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
[2]   You forgave the iniquity of your people;
          you pardoned all their sin.                              Selah
[3]   You withdrew all your wrath;
          you turned from your hot anger.

[4]   Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
          and put away your indignation toward us.
[5]   Will you be angry with us forever?
          Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
[6]   Will you not revive us again,
          so that your people may rejoice in you?
[7]   Show us your steadfast love, O LORD,
          and grant us your salvation.

[8]   Let me hear what God the LORD will speak,
          for he will speak peace to his people,
          to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
[9]   Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,
          that his glory may dwell in our land.

[10]  Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;
          righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
[11]  Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,
          and righteousness will look down from the sky.
[12]  The LORD will give what is good,
          and our land will yield its increase.
[13]  Righteousness will go before him,
          and will make a path for his steps.

Matthew 5:11-16

[11]"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. [12]Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

[13]"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

[14]"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. [15]No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. [16]In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5:1-10

[1]When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. [2]Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

[3]"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

[4]"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

[5]"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

[6]"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

[7]"Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

[8]"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

[9]"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

[10]"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

1 Corinthians 2:1-13

[1]When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. [2]For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. [3]And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. [4]My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, [5]so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.

[6]Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. [7]But we speak God's wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. [8]None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had,
they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. [9]But, as it is written,
     "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
          nor the human heart conceived,
     what God has prepared for those who love him" --
[10]these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. [11]For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God. [12]Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. [13]And we speak of these things in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things to those who are spiritual.

1 Corinthians 1:20-31

[20]Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? [21]For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe.
[22]For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, [23]but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, [24]but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. [25]For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.

[26]Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. [27]But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; [28]God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, [29]so that no one might boast in the presence of God. [30]He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, [31]in order that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Matthew 4:1-11

[1]Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. [2]He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. [3]The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God,
command these stones to become loaves of bread." [4]But he answered,
     "It is written, 'One does not live by bread alone,
          but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

[5]Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, [6]saying to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down;
for it is written,
     'He will command his angels concerning you,'
          and 'On their hands they will bear you up,
     so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.'"
[7]Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

[8]Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; [9]and he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." [10]Jesus said to him,
"Away with you, Satan! for it is written,
     'Worship the Lord your God,
          "and serve only him.'"
[11]Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.

Psalm 104

[1]   Bless the LORD, O my soul.
         O LORD my God, you are very great.
    You are clothed with honor and majesty,
[2]        wrapped in light as with a garment.
    You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
[3]        you set the beams of your chambers on the waters,
    you make the clouds your chariot,
         you ride on the wings of the wind,
[4]   you make the winds your messengers,
         fire and flame your ministers.

[5]   You set the earth on its foundations,
         so that it shall never be shaken.
[6]   You cover it with the deep as with a garment;
         the waters stood above the mountains.
[7]   At your rebuke they flee;
         at the sound of your thunder they take to flight.
[8]   They rose up to the mountains, ran down to the valleys
         to the place that you appointed for them.
[9]   You set a boundary that they may not pass,
         so that they might not again cover the earth.

[10]  You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
         they flow between the hills,
[11]  giving drink to every wild animal;
         the wild asses quench their thirst.
[12]  By the streams the birds of the air have their habitation;
         they sing among the branches.
[13]  From your lofty abode you water the mountains;
         the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.

[14]  You cause the grass to grow for the cattle,
         and plants for people to use,
    to bring forth food from the earth,
[15]       and wine to gladden the human heart,
    oil to make the face shine,
         and bread to strengthen the human heart.
[16]  The trees of the LORD are watered abundantly,
         the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
[17]  In them the birds build their nests;
         the stork has its home in the fir trees.
[18]  The high mountains are for the wild goats;
         the rocks are a refuge for the coneys.
[19]  You have made the moon to mark the seasons;
         the sun knows its time for setting.
[20]  You make darkness, and it is night,
         when all the animals of the forest come creeping out.
[21]  The young lions roar for their prey,
         seeking their food from God.
[22]  When the sun rises, they withdraw
         and lie down in their dens.
[23]  People go out to their work
         and to their labor until the evening.

[24]  O LORD, how manifold are your works!
         In wisdom you have made them all;
         the earth is full of your creatures.
[25]  Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
         creeping things innumerable are there,
         living things both small and great.
[26]There go the ships,
         and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.

[27]  These all look to you
         to give them their food in due season;
[28]  when you give to them, they gather it up;
         when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
[29]  When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
         when you take away their breath, they die
         and return to their dust.
[30]  When you send forth your spirit, they are created;
         and you renew the face of the ground.

[31]  May the glory of the LORD endure for ever;
         may the LORD rejoice in his works --
[32]  who looks on the earth and it trembles,
         who touches the mountains and they smoke.
[33]  I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
         I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
[34]  May my meditation be pleasing to him,
         for I rejoice in the LORD.
[35]  Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
         and let the wicked be no more.
    Bless the LORD, O my soul.
    Praise the Lord!

Matthew 3:1-12

[1]In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, [2]"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." [3]This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said,
    "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
    'Prepare the way of the Lord,
         make his paths straight.'"
[4]Now John wore clothing of camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. [5]Then the people of Jerusalem and all Judea were going out to him, and all the region along the Jordan, [6]and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

[7]But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? [8]Bear fruit worthy of repentance. [9]Do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our ancestor'; for I tell you, God is able from these
stones to raise up children to Abraham. [10]Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

[11]"I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. [12]His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

Psalm 16

[1]   Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
[2]   I say to the LORD, "You are my Lord;
          I have no good apart from you."

[3]   As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble,
          in whom is all my delight.

[4]   Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows;
          their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
          or take their names upon my lips.

[5]   The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;
          you hold my lot.
[6]   The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
          I have a goodly heritage.

[7]   I bless the LORD who gives me counsel;
          in the night also my heart instructs me.
[8]   I keep the LORD always before me;
          because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

[9]   Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
          my body also rests secure.
[10]  For you do not give me up to Sheol,
          or let your faithful one see the Pit.

[11]  You show me the path of life.
          In your presence there is fullness of joy;
          in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

1 Kings 17:1-16

[1]Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word." [2]The word of the LORD came to him, saying, [3]"Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. [4]You shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." [5]So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. [6]The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the wadi. [7]But after a while the wadi dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

[8]Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, [9]"Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you." [10]So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink." [11]As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand." [12]But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die." [13]Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. [14]For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth." [15]She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. [16]The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.

Psalm 42

[1]   As a deer longs for flowing streams,
          so my soul longs for you, O God.
[2]   My soul thirsts for God,
          for the living God.
     When shall I come and behold
          the face of God?
[3]   My tears have been my food
          day and night,
     while people say to me continually,
          "Where is your God?"

[4]   These things I remember,
          as I pour out my soul:
     how I went with the throng,
          and led them in procession to the house of God,
     with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving,
          a multitude keeping festival.
[5]   Why are you cast down, O my soul,
          and why are you disquieted within me?
     Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
          my help [6]and my God.

     My soul is cast down within me;
          therefore I remember you
     from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
          from Mount Mizar.
[7]   Deep calls to deep
          at the thunder of your cataracts;
     all your waves and your billows
          have gone over me.
[8]   By day the LORD commands his steadfast love,
          and at night his song is with me,
          a prayer to the God of my life.

[9]   I say to God, my rock,
          "Why have you forgotten me?
     Why must I walk about mournfully
          because the enemy oppresses me?"
[10]  As with a deadly wound in my body,
          my adversaries taunt me,
     while they say to me continually,
          "Where is your God?"

[11]  Why are you cast down, O my soul,
          and why are you disquieted within me?
     Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
          my help and my God.

Philippians 1:3-11

[3]I thank my God every time I remember you, [4]constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, [5]because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. [6]I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. [7]It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God's grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.
[8]For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. [9]And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight [10]to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, [11]having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.

Psalm 84

[1]   How lovely is your dwelling place,
         O LORD of hosts!
[2]   My soul longs, indeed it faints
         for the courts of the LORD;
    my heart and my flesh sing for joy
         to the living God.

[3]   Even the sparrow finds a home,
         and the swallow a nest for herself,
         where she may lay her young,
    at your altars, O LORD of hosts,
         my King and my God.
[4]   Happy are those who live in your house,
         ever singing your praise.                        Selah

[5]   Happy are those whose strength is in you,
         in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
[6]   As they go through the valley of Baca
         they make it a place of springs;
         the early rain also covers it with pools.
[7]   They go from strength to strength;
         the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

[8]   O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer;
         give ear, O God of Jacob!                          Selah
[9]   Behold our shield, O God;
         look on the face of your anointed.

[10]  For a day in your courts is better
         than a thousand elsewhere.
    I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
         than live in the tents of wickedness.
[11]  For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
         he bestows favor and honor.
    No good thing does the LORD withhold
         from those who walk uprightly.
[12]  O LORD of hosts,
         happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Psalm 116

[1]   I love the LORD, because he has heard
          my voice and my supplications.
[2]   Because he inclined his ear to me,
          therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
[3]   The snares of death encompassed me;
          the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
          I suffered distress and anguish.
[4]   Then I called on the name of the LORD:
          "O LORD, I pray, save my life!"

[5]   Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;
          our God is merciful.
[6]   The LORD protects the simple;
          when I was brought low, he saved me.
[7]   Return, O my soul, to your rest,
          for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

[8]   For you have delivered my soul from death,
          my eyes from tears,
          my feet from stumbling.
[9]   I walk before the LORD
          in the land of the living.
[10]  I kept my faith, even when I said,
          "I am greatly afflicted";
[11]  I said in my consternation,
          "Everyone is a liar."

[12]  What shall I return to the LORD
          for all his bounty to me?
[13]   I will lift up the cup of salvation
          and call on the name of the LORD,
[14]  I will pay my vows to the LORD
          in the presence of all his people.
[15]  Precious in the sight of the LORD
          is the death of his faithful ones.
[16]  O LORD, I am your servant;
          I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
          You have loosed my bonds.
[17]  I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
          and call on the name of the LORD.
[18]  I will pay my vows to the LORD
          in the presence of all his people,
[19]  in the courts of the house of the LORD,
          in your midst, O Jerusalem.
     Praise the LORD!

Psalm 96

[1]   O sing to the LORD a new song;
          sing to the LORD, all the earth.
[2]   Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
          tell of his salvation from day to day.
[3]   Declare his glory among the nations,
          his marvelous works among all the peoples.
[4]   For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
          he is to be revered above all gods.
[5]   For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
          but the LORD made the heavens.
[6]   Honor and majesty are before him;
          strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
[7]   Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
          ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
[8]   Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
          bring an offering, and come into his courts.
[9]   Worship the LORD in holy splendor;
          tremble before him, all the earth.

[10]  Say among the nations, "The LORD is king!
          The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved.
          He will judge the peoples with equity."
[11]  Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
          let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
[12]       let the field exult, and everything in it.
     Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
[13]       before the LORD; for he is coming,
          for he is coming to judge the earth.
     He will judge the world with righteousness,
          and the peoples with his truth.

James 2:14-26

[14]What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? [15]If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, [16]and one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill," and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? [17]So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

[18]But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. [19]You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe -- and shudder.

[20]Do you want to be shown, you senseless person, that faith apart from works is barren? [21]Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? [22]You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was brought to completion by the works. [23]Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the friend of God. [24]You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. [25]Likewise, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another road? [26]For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.

Psalm 62

[1]   For God alone my soul waits in silence;
         from him comes my salvation.
[2]   He alone is my rock and my salvation,
         my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

[3]   How long will you assail a person,
         will you batter your victim, all of you,
         as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
[4]   Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
         They take pleasure in falsehood;
    they bless with their mouths,
         but inwardly they curse.
Selah

[5]   For God alone my soul waits in silence,
         for my hope is from him.
[6]   He alone is my rock and my salvation,
         my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
[7]   On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
         my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.

[8]   Trust in him at all times, O people;
         pour out your heart before him;
         God is a refuge for us.
     Selah

[9]   Those of low estate are but a breath,
         those of high estate are a delusion;
    in the balances they go up;
         they are together lighter than a breath.
[10]  Put no confidence in extortion,
         and set no vain hopes on robbery;
         if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

[11]  Once God has spoken;
         twice have I heard this:
    that power belongs to God,
[12]       and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
    For you repay to all
         according to their work.
